County sprawl: Information meeting, January 21, hosted by our neighbours in Angus

The more I look into planning in Simcoe county, the more I wonder.

My faith in the current version of township planning?

…boy, oh, boy, oh, boy…

A good article from Kate Harries and AWARE Simcoe: Sprawl: the Monster that’s Consuming Simcoe County.

This is an urgent issue for Simcoe County residents. By 2031 the population of Simcoe County, Orillia and Barrie is to have grown by about 250,000 people. This will impact our air and water quality, our health, our lifestyles and our tax bills.

How can our municipal councils meet the challenge of building healthy communities within ecological limitations?

Our panellists will present their perspective and we want to hear from you – what are your concerns and ideas?

Call to Action:

WHEN: Saturday, January 21, 2012, 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. WHERE: Community Centre, 8527 County Road 10, Angus ON (directions via link, Google map)

I plan on attending, listen to the panelists and meet a few new neighbours. I encourage you to do the same. Great time to teach what being a citizen is to your kids. Why not run a couple extra copies of the flyer off and bring them to work, school, etc?

btw: Watch out as the county’s community centres are shuttered for good because of citizen “apathy”. Or they’ll be centralized into “efficient”, empire-building admin centres. These unauthorized, “irrational” meetings simply interfere too much with The Corporatist Agenda.
