George Buie was born in 1913 in Sunnidale Township, the son of James C. Buie and Dollena Bell of Flos Township. His father served for a number of years as Councillor, Deputy-Reeve and Reeve of Sunnidale. Mr. Buie was educated at S.S. No. 1, Sunnidale, and at Stayner Continuation School.
In 1944, he married Emma McQueen of Nottawasaga Township and they had two children, Mary Jane Parent (Barrie) and Jim (Invermere, B.C.). Mrs. Buie died in 1967.
In 1952, the family purchased the Dalston General Store and moved to Vespra Township, operating he store and service station until 1966.
Mr. Buie was elected to Council in 1967 and served for the next 15 years, acting as Reeve from 1979-1981.
He moved to Midhurst in 1973 and married Elsie McGinnis of Barrie in 1976. He is presently a member of the Vespra Library Board. p.107
George says the way he decided to run for office on council was because he was always giving Walter Forbes, Deputy Reeve, and Carl Doran, Councillor, a hard time of it, and Carl said “If you think you’re so damn smart, why aren’t you in council?”
George said, “When I sell the store, I will be.”
And so he was. Marguerite Watson p. 426
