AWARE Simcoe‘s Sandy Agnew in Official Plan: County Council Says NO to Public Meetings says that 16 (v. 11) county councillors voted against holding public information sessions regarding the Amended Official Plan.
The County had submitted the original Official Plan to the province in 2008. The province made no decision on it because it didn’t conform to provincial policies such as Places To Grow. So the County appealed the non-decision to the OMB. The Amended Simcoe County Official Plan is a result of several months of negotiations held behind closed doors with provincial officials in 2012.
This decision was made in the face of residents taking the time to give 100 comments by the August deadline and 295 petition signatures.
How did Springwater Township county councillors vote?: No note was made. However, in a previous posting AWARE Simcoe reported that Mayor Collins, although saying she is not opposed to public inpute, voted against further public hearings when the matter came up at the Corporate Services committee.
If Mayor Collins had voted with the resolution by Penetanguishene Mayor Gerry Marshall and Midland Deputy Mayor Stephan Kramp, we would have had two public hearings this October: local, low-cost input and non-legal (ie. outside the OMB). With Collins’ vote, this initiative was defeated 6 to 5.
Those that prevailed noted that they didn’t want to hear from the same people again.
