Mr. Day and me

Bayfield Street from Barrie to Highway 26 at the Midhurst plains used to be called Mill Street.

From Finlay Mill Road to Highway 26, the highway divided modest homes and the provincial forest. By the late 1970s, the red pines were starting to be thinned out.

My Vespra township had men who served in two wars, helped build a cenotaph and  a Royal Canadian Legion and left an everlasting impression. And you could tell the most respected of them by how a gentle man dressed in civilian life.

Please children: try to listen to and honour older men, and keep an eye on those in hats.

With any luck, they’ll be with you forever,

They’ll be with you for always.
